Gerwin, both as lawyer and economist by education brings more than 25 years of experience to WLP-Law as international tax advisor. Gerwin’s practice is focused on advising multiple domestic and internationally operating multinationals on matters of taxation, in particular, corporate income tax, withholding taxes, tax treaties and EU tax laws. Gerwin is an expert on international (holding) structures, tax litigation, mergers and acquisitions, liquidations, EU Tax Directives and effective (international) tax planning. Gerwin’s clients include multinational enterprises in the financial, automotive, energy and manufacturing industry.
In addition, Gerwin is one of the few leading experts on aspects of Bilateral Investment Treaties in the Netherlands.
Gerwin started his career with one of the top-tier tax firms in the Netherlands. Gerwin joined the Amsterdam office of a U.S. law firm in the Netherlands, as senior associate. Gerwin met the founders of WLP-Law at such firm and joined WLP-Law as an international tax partner in 2012.
Gerwin is a publisher of many articles on (corporate) tax matters, lectures in the Netherlands and abroad, and is currently a co-author of several online tax books, and an author and lecturer with the International Bureau of Fiscal Documentation in the Netherlands.
Member NOB (Dutch Association of Tax Lawyers) since 1992. Education: Master of Laws (LL.M), Groningen, University, the Netherlands, 1987. Master of Science, fiscal economy, Groningen, University, the Netherlands, 1990, after which he joined the Royal Dutch Air Force as officer to fulfil his military service.
Gerwin is fluent in Dutch and English, and understands and speaks proficient German.
