Maarten is an all-round corporate and commercial lawyer, who has been admitted to practice since 1995. With over 20 years’ experience as an attorney-at-law, Maarten is in particular known for his expertise on all aspects of Dutch business law.  His client base is to a large extent Dutch based small and mid-cap enterprises in several important industries. As attorney-at-law, but also as advisor to management and stakeholders of many enterprises, Maarten has represented various Netherlands’ based national and international privately owned businesses and family owned enterprises.

Maarten’s practice is vastly broad and experienced, including life sciences, logistics, food, fashion & ICT. In particular, his expertise lies in handling complex issues, such as joint ventures, liability of directors and shareholders, partnerships, mergers and acquisitions, divestitures, restructuring and (cross border) commercial contracts. Maarten is both a creative thinker but also an experienced litigator, both in court and in arbitration (NAI and ICC), business mediations and Bilateral Investment Treaties.


Maarten started his career at the legal departments of one of the ‘big four’ accounting firms before entering into private practice. After spending several years in the Dutch Antilles as attorney-at-law, Maarten returned to the Netherlands and joined a mid-size firm in the Netherlands, and became managing partner of such firm.  In December 2013, Maarten joined WLP-Law in Amsterdam as experienced attorney-at-law and partner. In addition, since such time, Maarten serves as a part-time lecturer in corporate and company law at Leiden University, the Netherlands, Private Law Institute, Business Law Department. 

Maarten also has served on several boards, including non-profit organizations.


Master of Laws (J.D.), Leiden University, the Netherlands, 1993. Post doc: Mergers & Acquisitions, Erasmus University Rotterdam, the Netherlands (2002). Maarten is admitted to practice in the Netherlands (since 1998), and in the Dutch Antilles (St. Maarten 1995-1997).

Maarten is a member of the Dutch Bar Association, the International Bar Association (IBA), the Corporate Litigation Association (Vereniging Corporate Litigation) and the Commercial Law Association (Vereniging Handelsrecht).

Maarten is fluent in English, Dutch, and speaks proficient French.
